Prerequisites: -Emergency Vehicle Technician 1B: Electrical Systems AThis course provides an overview of the knowledge and skills needed to repair low-voltage electrical systems, and inspect, maintain, and repair electronic controls and instrumentation in emergency vehicles. This course is intended for the SFT-certified Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) 1 who is advancing to EVT 2 or anyone seeking an overview of electronic controls and instrumentation. Topics will include proper techniques for repairing and testing procedures of low voltage electrical systems to assure they are operating in accordance with manufacturer specifications and the latest applicable NFPA standards. Additional topics will include testing, maintaining, and repair of electronic controls and instrumentation, use of electrical schematics, review of electrical calculations, and an in-depth overview of multiplexing systems found on emergency vehicles. Course content will include hands-on review by students with the inspection, diagnostic, repair and testing of basic electrical circuitry, and electrical components.
