This course provides an overview of the knowledge and skills needed to inspect and maintain low-voltage electrical systems used in emergency vehicles. This course is designed for emergency vehicle technicians pursuing SFT certification or anyone seeking an overview of the low-voltage electricalsystems used on emergency vehicles. Topics will include discussion on Ohm’s, Watt’s and Kirchhoff’s laws, series vs parallel electrical circuits, proper digital voltmeter and battery tester use, proper conductor selection and repair, basic charging and starting systems, interpretation of electrical schematics and basic schematic symbols, inspection and troubleshooting of a low voltage electrical system, including proper maintenance, repair and testing of low voltage electrical components and related systems. Course content will include extensive hands-on exercises by students with the building, inspection, and testing of basic electrical circuitry, and electrical components.
