Our adult keelboat classes are designed to teach students all the basics of sailing in preparation to sail a boat on your own. Classes run for 12 hours of instruction time and go over all the basics of sailing including: rigging, how sailboats work, steering, trimming sails, docking, and more. Classes are designed to maximize time on the water for students, and sailors hop on the water from day one! Students will learn all positions on the boat including skippering (driving), sail trim, navigator, and bow/mast work while being instructed by some of the best sailors in the Olympia area. Keelboat classes are taught onboard small keelboats (20-30ft long, 3-5 sailors onboard), which are a stable platform for learning. Sailboats do tip sideways in windy conditions, so sailors should be physically prepared for the conditions experienced while sailing. Students should have good balance, be capable of walking on slanted surfaces, be able to stand from a sitting position (and vice versa) without issue, and be able to step onto the boat from the dock without assistance.
