Description
Harris Lake County Park, located in southwestern Wake County, manages a 60-acre Longleaf Pine Restoration Area. The park and Duke Energy were recognized in 2019 for the NC Longleaf Honor Roll by the NC Longleaf Coalition. This prestigious recognition was awarded for actively managing our Longleaf Pine stand with regular prescribed burning. With Sarah Crate, Outreach Communications Coordinator for The Longleaf Alliance, Jackie Trickel, Environmental Educator and retired Harris Lake County Park staff, and Rob Trickel, retired NC Forest Service forester, as your guides, travel along the back roads of the park on our wagon to the longleaf forest. You will be able to disembark to walk among the majestic trees and explore to see regrowth after a controlled burn of 30 acres conducted in January. Learn more about the longleaf ecosystem and our other longleaf forest restoration efforts at the park, including native understory plantings. May is Longleaf Celebration Month at Harris Lake County Park! Visit wake.gov/longleaf for additional offerings.
