This course is designed to train instructor candidates to teach courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program by developing their understanding of stroke mechanics, safe class fundamentals, and how to use Red Cross materials to facilitate active and fun learning in a learn-to-swim lesson program. Students must come prepared to swim on the first day of class and must be at least 16 years old by the last day of class. Participants will have to pass pre-requisite skills on the first day of class in order to continue with training. The pre-requisite skills include demonstrating stroke skills by swimming 25 yards in freestyle and backstroke, 15 yards of butterfly, floating/sculling on back, and treading water for 1 minute.
