Camp Manitowa, Cedar Point has been the home to many children and young adults during the summer. Bruce and Sahara Lodge and our mess hall, Sunny Hall have been amazing spaces. The lodges are rustic that include sleeping spaces for 25 individuals, a furnished kitchen, bathroom with shower stalls and beautiful fireplaces. The buildings on camp have been used by past generations of the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois and have continued to be used as a space to grow, and learn, and even more important, eat and sleep. By fixing the roofs on the buildings around camp, it will allow future generations of nature lovers to have a place to stay for the summer. This project was created with the vision of raising funds in order to replace the roofing and structural elements on Camp Manitowa, Cedar Point. Rather than continuing to patch the roof as issues arise, we have chosen to focus on this project as it is important for continuity. Right now our buildings on camp are in dire need of replacement. In the long run addressing the cause of the leaks by replacing the roof will be more cost effective. Our goal is to raise $50,000. The event vision to meet the crowd-funding goals of $15,000 on the day of the event, and by the end of the event reaching the final goal of $50,000. We will allow sales of tickets for the event at a reduced price of $15, on the day of the event tickets will be $20 on entrance. Attendees will be greeted by our staff on entrance and will be given a map of the camp and instructions to where to park. Food will be sold from the camp’s kitchen and local artists and vendors will be set up near our gazebo. At the gazebo there will be live music performed by local musicians. Hiking and foraging will be allowed during the event hours. In our Sunny Hall there will be information about Camp Cedar Points’ past, present and future. During our scheduled live music time will be allotted for people who would like to speak about how Cedar Point has been influential.
