About this event
About the Conference: Experiential and project based learning is one of the most effective and engaging forms of education. We know this because we are out there, we see the outcomes first hand; but how do we tell our story. From adventure therapy to k-12 educators, we as experiential educators are producing innovative methods to reach our students and clients, now it’s time to tell our story. Let’s help one another raise the bar so that we collectively can raise the bar of our field. Let’s come together and talk about how we are building a bigger point and bringing experiential learning to people and places outside of our AEE community. Help us tell the story of you, your work, and our field. Join us at beautiful Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. About Touch of Nature: Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center is located on 3200 acres in beautiful Southern Illinois. The center serves as the outdoor laboratory for SIU Carbondale providing outdoor experiences to students and the local Southern Illinois Region. Touch of Nature’s rich history with experiential education dates back to its formation in 1952. The center has served as a conference location for AEE, the Wilderness Education Association (WEA), the American Camping Association (ACA), and the Student Summit. Touch of Nature’s roots in inclusive and experiential education have seen many industry firsts, including being the first ACA accredited camp, being recognized as the home of the special Olympics, and constructing the first challenge course outside of the Outward Bound Community. Touch of Nature seeks to honor the past with eyes toward the future of inclusive, experiential, and outdoor education. Registration includes: full-access to the conference, lodging in our bunk-style cabins (linens not included), 3 meals on Friday 3/29 and a continental breakfast on 3/30.
