Description
Provides the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.
Prerequisites: Swim 300 yards continuously; Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; Complete a timed event within 1 min, 40 sec by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-lb object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding with Bundle 5, valid for 2 years. Fee includes books and materials.
ADVANCED REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. REGISTRATION WILL BE CLOSED ON APRIL 26th, 2024.
Class will be held at the Robert Livermore Aquatic Center from 9am-5pm on May 4th, 5th, 11th and 12th. A lunch break will be provided, you may leave to get lunch if you desire.
Class on Friday May 3rd will only be to verify the pre-requisite physical skills. If you cannot attend this date please coordinate with Alyssa Smith to re-schedule a time to verify pre-requisite skills before May 4th.
