The Marines Memorial Challenge is a fundraiser for Veterans causes. Held in beautiful Sunset Park, Las Vegas, the Challenge combines map reading with a fun walk/run to retrieve playing cards to build a winning poker hand. Athletes are rewarded with an extra card for arriving first, second or third at each station. The first three entrants to return to start after visiting all five stations also receive an extra card. The highest three poker hands win a $500, $300, or $200 gift card respectively. This Challenge presents the contestants a self-paced, self-determined course through the last remaining dunes of the Las Vegas Valley while offering a chance to win a worthy prize.
Event details and schedule
Registration opens at 8 am on Race Day. There, contestants will receive their bibs and one challenge T-shirt per hand. At 9 am, opening ceremonies will welcome contestants, present the National Colors, and the Race Director will highlight key details. We will issue maps annotated with the five stations. On command, the race will begin.
Registration and the Start and Finish points will take place at the "I" pavilion. Parking is in the South Parking lot on Eastern Avenue. Contestants may wear athletic or comfortable clothing. We recommend that contestants have a means a carrying the cards as they collect them at each station. We recommend a pocket on shirt or shorts, or carry a 'fanny pack'. Water will be provided at each station, but contestants may desire to carry a portable container of water or sports drink. ID will be needed at registration. Walk-ins on the day of the race will also need to be able to use Venlo or Paypal to register.
