BIRD FEST | Forest Bathing Walk | Eagle Creek

EC - Ornithology Center • 6515 Delong Road IndianapolisIN  46278 Organized by Indianapolis Parks & Recreation Department

About this event

Description

Forest Bathing, also known as Forest Therapy, is a nature-based wellness practice. This experience can be described as a sensory, immersive, and slow walk. During a walk, we will use our senses to “bathe” in our surroundings, using eyes, ears, hands, nose, body, and heart to experience the world around us. This practice will be facilitated by Certified Association of Nature & Forest Therapy (ANFT) Guide & Ornithology Center Assistant Manager, Donna Riner. During the walk, your guide will facilitate invitations, or prompts, to support sensory connection to nature and provide opportunities for sharing between invitations.
To learn more about the science behind Forest Bathing, check out this link.
We will spend approximately two hours together, with time built in for walking short distances, wandering, exploring, sitting, and sharing. Unlike a guided hike, this walk is short, covering only a half mile or so. At the conclusion of the walk, we will share tea and snacks together.
The cost for this program is $15 per participant.
Logistics:
Youth (ages 7+) are welcome to join and they must be accompanied by an adult guardian.
Please check the weather and bring appropriate layers. If severe storms and high winds are forecasted, the walk will be canceled, but the walk will not be canceled if light rain is projected.
Please bring whatever you may need to feel comfortable on the walk: water, snacks, small towel to sit on, dry clothes for after, etc.
Each walk is limited to 15 participants. If you are signing up to join for a walk, please be at least 95% sure you are able to join at the time, date and location you have selected. If you must cancel for any reason, please call 317-327-2473 at least 24 hours before the scheduled walk or email Donna at donna.riner@indy.gov.
Please alert your guide, Donna, about any dietary restrictions you may have at least one week prior to the walk by emailing her at donna.riner@indy.gov.
This program is part of the 7th Annual Birding Festival taking place at Eagle Creek Park Saturday May 11 and Sunday, May 12. Most of the other activities are free with park admission. Check out the full schedule here and see what other activities may interest you!
