We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
General Lapidary - Instructor, Jack ReighThe General Lapidary class teaches students how to make oval or circular shaped cabochons, and is an introduction to basic lapidary practices using trim saws, slant cabbing units, and the Covington combination grinder/sander/polishing machines. In order to use the lapidary equipment in the shop all members new to lapidary are required to take this class. You should also take this class if you have not practiced your lapidary skills in many years, or do not feel confident in shaping and polishing a cabochon. Individuals with lapidary experience should seek approval from the commissioner before using shop equipment. You will complete two oval cabochons and all materials are provided. Come prepared to take notes on the first evening. This class does not prepare you for advanced or irregularly shaped cabochon forming.
NOTE: You must be able to attend the first class. You will not be able to attend the rest of the class if you do not attend the first night. The entire process will be demonstrated on the first night.
