About this event

Period C: Speech and Debate This course will focus on the basics of Speech and Debate for young students. Students will learn about competitive events and participate in activities to learn how to present in front of a captivated audience. From fun public speaking games to real application, students will receive training to be their best at competitive Theater, Public Speaking and Debate–aka Speech and Debate. Instructor Dontae Hill aka “The Forensics Guy” has been involved in Speech and Debate for over a decade. The Forensics Guy has dedicated his life to the activity and found a variety of ways to live out his mantra of making sure that every student has the opportunity to be impacted by Forensics. In 2013 he created Forensics Forever which originally began as an organization hosting Speech and Debate classes for elementary students in Wisconsin and is now a league that hosts online Speech and Debate tournaments for all students grades 3-12. Dontae is also the Athenian School Speech and Debate Instructor for the Upper School and Middle School. Period D: Woodshop Basics In Woodshop Basics, campers will begin with hand tools and continue with power tools while learning about safety in the shop. Campers will design, plan, and build two objects– integrating tool knowledge and visual aesthetics. Campers will take home personal projects as a memento of their craft and growing knowledge. Instructor Trevor Slater is a math teacher and has a long career in education, including being an outdoor educator, coaching basketball, teaching archery and woodshop and much more.
