Shelton School • 17301 Preston Rd DallasTX  75252 Organized by The June Shelton School & Evaluation Center

About this event

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course teaches students to use Python programming to manipulate the BBC’s Micro Bit, a tiny computer chip with a lot of capabilities. Students will program their micro bit to act as a name tag, display messages and built-in images, display custom pixel art and animation, and respond to button and accelerometer input. The final project is an interactive LED game that tests reaction time and runs on student code and an attached AA battery. This is an excellent introduction for new coders and the opportunity to test skills with a unique new device for those with experience! Students will access digital course materials on Trinket.io and Google Drive. Students will download and use Mu Editor (A free code editing software - https://codewith.mu/). The course will be structured around 3 small projects with introductory skill building lessons. Computers will require a Windows 32-Bit, 64-Bit, or macOSX operating system. Additional Hardware Required: This course requires the purchase of a “BBC Micro:bit Go Kit” ($20.69 on Amazon) https://www.amazon.com/micro-bit-BBC2546862-Micro-go/dp/B01G8X7VM2
