Drawing: Botanical Art Workshop with Colored Pencil - A Focus on FlowersInstructor: Barbara Holmer
Botanical Art is an art form that combines scientific accuracy with artistic sensitivity andaesthetic. Start a sketchbook with a focus on flowers while practicing color matchingand a variety of techniques using colored pencil.* We will start with the deconstructed flower and then discuss points to remember when drawing the complete blossom.Subjects will be provided. Bring your sketchbook and colored pencil supplies anda snack or lunch.
Prerequisite: Students should have previous experience with basic colored pencil techniques.

MATERIALS LIST
GENERAL:-small vase or container for your subject plus flower frog if you have one-kneaded eraser-Tombow Mono eraser-artist’s tape (not 3M) or white painter’s tape-sighting stick or divider-foam core board (approximately 11”x14”) or small drawing board-.5mm mechanical pencils with leads (HB)-small (1”) hake brush or other soft brush-Saral transfer paper or hand made transfer paper
PAPER:-9”x12” or smaller sketchbook* such as Stillman and Birn Alpha SeriesORStonehenge Drawing, Bristol Board Vellum surface, or other drawing paper
PLUSFoam Core board 11”X14” or other drawing board*Good mixed media sketchbooks are Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Softcover,Aquabee Super Deluxe
SHARPENERS: choose from:-Staedtler hand held sharpener, 2 hole tub (Staples)-Staples electric model #21835-Panasonic KP-310 (only available on e-Bay)-Carl Angel-5 Royal (hand operated and quieter than electric)-(Mitsubishi) Uni KH-20 (hand operated)-any sharpener you have that gives a truly SHARP POINT
COLORED PENCILS: Regular colored pencils...NOT water soluble pencils!choose from these brands **-Faber Castell POLYCHROMOS (this is the brand I use; it is available at Dick
Blick in individual colors )**see attached color chart
-Prismacolor Premier (NOT Verithin)-Derwent Colorsoft-Lyraalso need:-Lyra Splender blender (colorless)
