Kala Gallery and Classroom • 2990 San Pablo Avenue BerkeleyCA  94702 Organized by Kala Art Institute
This event has ended.

About this event

Artechnē is the study of art technology and materials. This fall series will be on the foundations of drawing, called observational studies, with focus on the study ‘how to’ draw botanicals from representation. This practice funnels creativity and learning knowledge simultaneously, and is the foundation for many professions from field work of 3D living and still objects of art, craft, design, the sciences, to technology. This course's subject will be a rose, an emblem of folk cultures and traditions throughout centuries all over the world. In this course, time will be your lesson, allowing space to process how you “see”, to draw, to connect the eyes to the hand. What are new discoveries you can see beyond ‘knowing’ what you are looking at? This class will be a patient investigation of one subject - you will discover new surfaces, shapes, values, colors, space, atmosphere and forms throughout the life of a rose in various stages. The course will include a 1 hr introduction lecture on the design history of botanical drawings.
