About this event

Schedule: Thursdays, 4- 6:00 pm Dates: April 11- May 2 (4 sessions) In this photo class, teens will learn the fascinating history and multifaceted applications of studio photography such as fundamentals of the medium such as lighting, working with live models, and composing images within the frame. Participants will also learn about the historical roots of portraiture and how studio photographers influenced the world of fashion as we know it. This workshop will touch upon topics and hands-on techniques in Intro to Portrait Photograph, Editorial Photography, Fashion Photography, and Intro to Digital Editing. All levels are welcome but participants should be familiar with their camera’s settings. For this class, participants will need a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) camera, or other camera with a manual exposure mode to adjust the settings for aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Make sure you have a new (or free of space) memory card, battery, and charger. If you do not have access to a camera, Kala has a limited number of digital cameras for use. Please contact youtharts@kala.org in advance to ensure availability. Artist Bio: Lee Oscar Gomez immigrated from Mexico to the Greater Los Angeles area at an early age, where they developed a subtle awareness of the cultural differences of a new place, and a strong embodiment of record keeping to capture their experiences in a foreign land. Through documentary photography, Gomez operates and manipulates their fascination with light to demonstrate political visual images that address topics of gender, sexuality, belonging, and self-identity. These images include street photography and constructed studio shots. Using analog film processes, Gomez also captures warmth and sensitivity to these topics as a form of radical archiving. Gomez holds a BFA from San José State University in 2019. They have exhibited their artwork locally.
