Abstracting the Landscape
A2AC, Studio 301 117 W. Liberty St. Ann Arbor, MI 48104 Organized by Ann Arbor Art Center
Registration closed.
About this event
Using the landscape as a point of reference this class will explore compositional and visual languages that venture into abstraction. Students will develop their own vocabulary of mark making along with the tools of non-representational painting traditions. This class is best suited for those with some previous painting or drawing experience who are excited to investigate the subject matter of the landscape in a new way! Students will make paintings and preparatory drawings from sites both chosen by them as well as the instructor. While this class will focus primarily on the use of painting with oil or acrylic paint, students will be encouraged to work with mixed media as well. Students will meet at the Art Center on the first day of class. This course is generally intended to take place indoors at the A2AC, however, the instructor may work with students to coordinate a few outdoor sessions at Barton Dam, only if weather permits. *There will be no class on May 10th or May 24th.
