Express yourself through paint! Nicole Kutz is an abstract painter who works intuitively and she will guide you to tap into your unique way of creating. This class is recommended for students who have taken a painting course before and offers guidance on how to analyze and make art outside of the representational. Students will be encouraged to experiment with a variety of mediums to create a final piece or series that is unique to them
Class one: Introduction to Abstract Painting - Brief discussion of contemporary art/art history for inspiration and context - Introduction into my approach to making abstract art from an intuitive place - Discuss materials and the importance of intentionality - Brainstorm concepts and materials for the upcoming classes – prompts or reference photos can be given if needed - Open hour to paint and ask questions. Optional homework of listing two ideas for paintings, materials used for each and a new artist that inspires each of them.
Class two: - Present ideas to the group for supportive feedback - Time to write, sketch or dive into painting to develop the ideas further - If students need help with a direction or steered more towards an assignment, I will provide prompts to help guide them
Class three: - Open studio time and forum for questions, critiques on progress thus far or help with materials
Class four: - Present completed work or what has been completed thus far - Opportunity to share thoughts on the process and how they may want to incorporate abstraction into their art practice
