THIS CLASS IS FOR AJO RESIDENTS ONLY!
This American Red Cross Lifeguard Training is ONLY for prospective employees who intend to apply to work for Pima County in Ajo, Arizona for Summer 2024. This is a blended learning format training.NEW: In order to be enrolled in a Pima County blended learning Lifeguard training, prospective employees must first register for and pass a pre-requisite screening. At no additional cost, prospective employees will be automatically enrolled into the Ajo blended learning lifeguard training upon successful completion of the pre-requisite screening. The pre-requisite screening includes the following:
- 300 yard swim continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidate may use breaststroke and freestyle strokes in any combination. Goggles may be used.
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.
- Complete a timed event in 1 minute and 40 seconds that include: swimming 20 yards, surface dive to retrieve a 10-pound brick, return to surface and swim 20 yards on back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the brick and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to breath. Must then exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
This pre-requisite session will be held:
Saturday May 11th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Ajo pool located at 290 5th St.

Participants must be 16 years old by June 1st, 2024 to register for this class.
Class size is limited to the first 8 participants registered. Minimum number of participants needed to run the class is 4.

Saturday, May 25th 10:00am to 5:00pm
Monday May 27th 9:00am to 3:00pm
Tuesday May 28th 9:00am to 3:00pm
Ajo Community Center (290 5th Street Ajo, Az. )
Sunday May 26th 9:00am to 4:00pm (Lunch break approximately at 1:00pm)

Class Fee: $50.00
- Fee is non-refundable once pre-requisites have been completed.
- $40.00 is refundable if participant does not pass pre-requisites.
- Additional $5.00 fee to transfer to a later class once registered for a class.
- Entire fee is only refundable if the class is cancelled
