Healthy Aging: 3 Tips to Feel Young and Reinvent Your Life

Here are three tips to feel young; reinvent your body and life for those over the age of 55.

Let Go

Exude confidence by claiming your right to years of earned wisdom. Make the decision to let go of what's not working in your life. Identify your biggest contributors to unnecessary stress and those issues that are responsible for stealing your happiness. Sift through the symptoms and pinpoint the culprit itself.

The days of beating yourself up over a wronged decision are long gone. Leave the agonizing to the 30 year olds and make a move. Forgive yourself, relationships or business endeavors that have gone wrong. Release the emotional bondage that may be keeping you from enjoying the life you deserve. Author Richard Carslon says, "One of the most dynamic and significant changes you can make in your life is to make the commitment to drop all negative references to your past, to begin living now."

Trusting your intuition has never been more important than at this time of your life. Turn up the volume to your inner spirit and listen to what is speaking to you. Let go of the past and be open to new things in order to reinvent yourself.

Bring Back

You've spent a lifetime getting to know who you are, developing character, learning what you like and dislike. This is your moment to come full circle. Bring back the care-free sensibility of your childhood.  Reintroduce spontaneity and remind yourself of what you loved as a kid. Perhaps fulfilling a childhood dream is still waiting to be initiated? The opportunity is yours to complete the desire and experience a level self-fulfilled satisfaction that had gone unrealized.

The 'I'm too old attitude' is a mindset for the likes of characters in Grumpy Old Men, not for you. It was once said, "Age is a question of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Your youthful spirit is waiting to be ignited. The old adage of age is just a number is exactly right; it's a number that will haunt you if you dwell on it. Instead, put your attention and gifted abilities to work; bring back the activities that once caused an ear to ear smile as a 10 year old. Run a race, join a baseball team, or paint and dream of faraway lands.

At 73, Ernest Shepherd is in better shape than most 20-something's. She teaches fitness classes and is training for another marathon. When asked about her mindset, she says, "I feel now that I am a very strong, positive and confident woman. Years ago I concerned myself about what people said concerning me. But when you get 70-something and you don't have that many years in front of you, you don't concern yourself with that."
