Walking Your Dog in the Rain

Most dogs don't care if it's raining, but some do. Same with humans. Some people do care if it's raining, yet some don't mind the wet weather.

Walking in the rain can be fun and feel good, but there are some things you may want to do to make your workout safe and enjoyable:

  1. Invest in Wicking Socks

Wet feet are more prone to blisters. There are also many waterproof light weight jackets, shirts and shorts that will help keep you drier.

  2. Stay Clear of the Roadways

Drivers sometimes drive crazy in the wet weather, not to mention the puddles that they drive through that may splash you. Stick to shaded trails, the trees will keep the rain away from you and Fido.

  3. Don't Forget About Fido

If your dog does not like the rain--you may want to invest in a doggy rain coat. Yep! You heard right. Raincoats are now made for dogs. You may think it's a crazy idea, but it's worth the investment if Fido won't go out to do his business in the rain.

  4. Thunder and Lightening

Any hints of thunder and/or lightening means it's time to head home. Getting struck by lightening is rare, but it does happen. It's not worth the chance. Plus, many dogs are frightened by the sounds of thunder.

  5. Towel Off

Have a towel ready by the door for when you get home.  Fido is going to need it unless you want him to run in your house and roll all over your white carpet!

Walking in the rain is refreshing, great for you and your dog and can be a lot of fun if you are prepared! I personally love getting muddy and wet--I just don't like the bath that follows.
