Camping Recipe: Deconstructed Stuffed Shrimp

One of our Active Outdoors Facebook fans, Crystal Henry, had been camping at Myles Standish State Forest in southern Massachusetts when she made this meal. She immediately found that this camping recipe was a hit and wanted to share it with you.

Deconstructed dishes are popular in regular kitchens and there's nothing stopping you from using this technique while cooking fireside. The idea is to take a well-known dish apart and then put it back together again, in a different way. Think of it as a new way to eat an old favorite.

What You'll Need:

Cooler: Pack it with a considerable amount of ice so that your shrimp and stuffing don't defrost too quickly.

Cooking Tools: Aside from your camping stove, you'll need an aluminum pan.

Jumbo Shrimp: You can buy these precooked or make them yourself.

Seafood Stuffing:You can get creative with this camping recipe and choose the seafood stuffing of your choice. Many prefer crabmeat stuffing and some like stuffing that contains a variety of seafood. Make or buy your favorite stuffing and freeze it.

What to Do

You can bake, grill, or sear your shrimp. However, Crystal found it's best to bake your shrimp; this gives them a similar flavor as the traditional recipe.

"When it's time to cook," she says, "put the shrimp and seafood stuffing in the pan and set it over the fire on a grill with some butter. Then serve. Delish!"
