4. Improved Concentration

The time you spend practicing yoga is time for your body and mind to step back and take a break from constant social and academic pressures. Allowing your mind to be cleared regularly can help you concentrate when it's time to hit the books, sit through long lectures or attend various social events.

A study published in the Indian Journal of Community Medicine showed that medical students who practiced yoga regularly for a month showed a marked improvement in their sleep and a greater ability to focus while studying. Additionally, the breathing techniques taught in yoga are particularly helpful for aiding concentration.

5. Improved Desk Posture

One of the main purposes of yoga is to help you sit better. Indian monks developed the practice as a way to help them sit through long hours of meditation. Imagine how your back would hurt, how your legs would ache, and how sore your muscles would be if you sat still for hours every day. Pain is distracting.

For this reason, yoga can help students sit through hours of classes without getting too restless or power through an all-night session at their desk while they cram for an important exam.

6. Improved Workouts

The increased flexibility that yoga gives you will help make your other workouts even better. Yoga helps strengthen the core and makes muscles limber, and both of these effects will benefit you in a number of different sports and exercises.
