Spend This Black Friday Among the Redwoods

Written by

Setting up a tent on the asphalt of a Best Buy vestibule isn't the only way to camp this Black Friday. But if you're having difficulty thinking of a reason to forgo the bargains for an outdoor adventure, California's Black Friday offer might sway you.

Inspired by REI, which made the decision to close its stores on the annual shopping day, California will make entrance to 49 state parks free. The promotion is in partnership with the Save the Redwoods League, a conservation society that promotes the protection of California's giant redwood trees.

"Take a walk in the redwoods; it's on us," says the League's website.

It is all part of a wider campaign to rid what should be a beautiful fall day of its chaotic consumerism and get people to enjoy the outdoors instead.

Many state parks have already sold out of free passes, so you'll want to plan for your Friday outing ASAP.
