The National Parks Conservation Association

An independent group that works vigorously outside our nation's political system, the NPCA addresses major threats facing the National Park Service. Founded in 1919 and now supported by over 800,000 members, NPCA has 23 regional and field offices across the United States.

The core values of the NPCA include:

  • Support for our parks from private citizens, organizations and other resources
  • Advocacy for our national parks and the National Park Service
  • Education for decision makers and the public about the importance of preserving the parks
  • Encouragement to Congress to uphold existing laws that protect the parks, and to support new legislation to address threats to the parks
  • Strong defense against attempts to weaken these laws in the courts
  • Assessment of the health of the parks and park management to better inform our advocacy work

How the NPCA helps:

Develops a movement of leaders who are dedicated to protecting our parks, making the parks more vital, sustainable and relevant to all Americans.

Partners with the NPS to design strategies, develop tools, and deliver training that sparks innovation and ignites change.

Passionate team of management experts and innovators dedicated to help NPS employees do their best.

Activism to help protect parks, such as petitioning the White House to ensure that the process known as "fracking" is done in such a way that our national parks are not damaged.

America's State Parks Foundation

A national voice for state parks, the America's State Parks Foundation promotes the value of our country's state parks, environmental stewardship, health and wellbeing benefits, and economic development. It also works to energize the State Park Movement, working in collaboration with state park agencies, their non-profit partners and other allies and supporters of state parks in the United States.

How the ASPF helps:

Supports and enables America's state parks to respond to changing environments, needs and resource challenges

Expands the capacity of state and local nonprofits to become strategic partners with public agencies in advancing America's state parks

Engages and educates the public to participate in long-term stewardship of America's state parks

The Park Foundation for Your State

Just about every state has its own park foundation to help bolster diminished budgets and reduce the impact of staffing cuts, park closings and other challenges.

National and state parks offer so much to us all, they deserve our support and protection—especially at a time when federal and state governments are hard pressed to provide the funding needed. You can help by joining one of the organizations listed above.
