Fall

As trees turn from green to orange, Vermonters throw on a jacket and scarf for some of the best outdoors activities of the year. The scent of fall wafting through the crisp air means this is the last time to get outside before snow and shorter days arrive.

Your Fall Vacation

The leaf peepers visit in droves to see the beauty of Vermont fall foliage. Instead of enjoying the beauty from your car, see what a true fall vacation looks like, from the mountains to the apple orchards.

  • On the Trail: What better way to enjoy fall foliage than from deep within the mountains. Immerse yourself in the beauty of this Vermont season and trek through the Robert Frost Trail, or Stratton Mountain Trail. Or try Stowe Pinnacle, where you'll find a number of hikes for all levels.
  • On the Water: Fall is a great time for anglers to visit; you can enjoy abundant scenic views with your fishing pole in hand. Make basecamp on the Clyde River in Newport for salmon and big walleye. Caspian Lake and Seymour Lake provide plenty of silver leapers, and go to the upper Missisquoi River for brown trout.
  • About Town: There are few better places to be during the New England fall season than Waterbury. Take the family for a day of apple picking and then head to Cold Hollow where you can enjoy hot cider, fresh apples and moist cider donuts straight off the baking sheet.
