Summer

With summer in full swing, it's clear why Vermont was deemed the Green Mountain State. Everywhere you look is green, from the Adirondack Mountains across the lake to breathtaking views from atop Mount Mansfield. Vermonters live for this season, and for good reason.

Your Summer Vacation

Your first day of summer vacation in Vermont starts with a morning hike and ends with a stunning sunset over Lake Champlain. But, don't forget to enjoy a cold maple soft serve ice cream, or as the locals call it, a maple creemee. And that's just the beginning.

  • On the Trail: Whether you want to hike to the highest point in Vermont—the top of Mount Mansfield—or take a long bike ride, there are more than enough options to keep you busy. Hike Silver Lake Trail in Salisbury or ride the Stowe Bike Path, in Stowe.
  • On the Water: Jim Sanders, an outdoors enthusiast and long-time Vermont resident suggests heading to Lake Dunmore for a long day of canoeing. Or spend the day on Lake Champlain, which is easily accessible. Relax on the beach, go boating or just swim around.
  • About Town: Get hungry, because summer in Vermont brings a variety of mouthwatering food festivals. After a day of hiking and biking, be sure to check out some of the most notable events: Vermont Cheesemakers Festival, Vermont Brewers Festival, Lake Champlain Maritime Festival and the Southern Vermont Garlic and Herb Festival. Grab fresh, seasonal produce from the Burlington Farmer's Market every Sunday.
