If you're looking for easy, inexpensive ways to eat—or get your entire family to eat—more fruits and veggies, buy produce that's in season. Not only will seasonal produce cost less overall, but it will also taste better compared to products that are available year-round. Fruits and vegetables that are in season during spring include:

  • apricots
  • artichokes
  • asparagus
  • carrots
  • cherries
  • fava beans
  • fiddleheads
  • garlic/green garlic
  • leeks
  • lemons
  • lettuces
  • morel mushrooms
  • nettles
  • spring onions
  • peas
  • pineapple
  • radishes
  • rhubarb
  • spinach
  • strawberries

The following recipes bring out the best of spring's tender greens, mild onions and sweet fruits. The easy cooking techniques, such as roasting and grilling, coax the natural sugars out of the produce, thus enhancing the flavor of the entire dish.
