Protect Your Skin With UPF Workout Attire

Written by

With the warmer temperatures upon us, it's always refreshing to take our workouts and runs outside.

However, working out under the beaming sun can harm your skin. Even if you put sunscreen on, your perspiration can sweat it right off.

Have no fear. With technology these days, workout apparel is able to put Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) into their clothing.

What is UPF?

UPF is equivalent to SPF (Sun Protection Factor). SPF, ratings for sunscreen, measures the amount of time it takes for the sun to irritate and harm your skin. UPF indicates how much UV radiation is absorbed through fabric and passes through to reach your skin.

When you see a UPF rating of 50+ it means only 1/50th of the UV ray's pass through your clothing. Clothing with this protection can significantly reduce your skin's exposure to UV rays.

Update your workout attire with a few piece sthat offer you strong protection. Keep an eye out for anything with UPF on the label. Note, the Skin Cancer Foundation recommends anything with UPF rating of 30 to 49 good and 50+ excellent.

Below are a few items that are affordable, light, and will protect your skin from sun.
