The Art of Goal Setting for the New Year

3. Ask for Support

The American Psychological Association suggests sharing your experience with family and friends. They advise to join a support group such as a workout class at your gym or a group of coworkers quitting smoking. The APA says that having someone to share your struggles with makes your journey to a healthier lifestyle easier and less intimidating.

4. Don't Get Discouraged

If you have a bad day or week, don't quit. It happens. It's important to just keep going. You don't gain weight by having a bad day or a bad week, but when indulgences happen day after day, month after month, you'll see the changes. Close the book on a bad week and start fresh on Monday, call your friend or coworker to pull you out of your rut and get back on your path.
