What Else To Consider

In addition to your goals, you should pay attention to your nutrition and how you are fueling your body. Nutrition can even help you reach those goals.

"Exercise is great for health and brilliant for mindset with the release of endorphins," Wiggins says. "But if you want to see physical changes, no amount of exercise is going to help if you don't focus on nutrition as well."

Paying attention to the types of workouts you do also plays an important role.

"Specify your goal and be sure to choose the right movements," Carter says. "Lastly, optimize your training times based on the other two criteria."

Basic Guidelines

  • Quick Cardio Workout: 20 to 30 minutes
  • Quick Strength Training Session: 20 to 30 minutes
  • Normal Cardio Workout: 40 to 60 minutes
  • Normal Strength Training Session: 40 to 60 minutes
  • Long Cardio and/or Strength Training Workout: 90 minutes or more
