Beat Fitness Boredom: 4 Partner Exercises

Do you get tired of working out by yourself? If you need a little motivation, but can't afford a personal trainer, then recruit a friend. Partner training makes working out fun and is a great way to help push past a plateau. Plus, you get to spend more time with your friend or loved one.

First, tell each other your goals. Then create a plan. Here are four partner exercises to help you beat fitness boredom.

4 Partner Exercises

1. Explosive Medicine Ball Sit Up and Toss

  • Partner 1: Sit on the ground with knees bent.
  • Partner 2: Stand a foot from you partner's feet.
  • Partner 2: Throw the ball from the chest to your partner.
  • Partner 1: Catch the ball, roll back to the ground, do a sit up, and then throw the ball back to your partner.
  • Repeat quickly.
  • Do 15 to 20 reps and then switch places.
  • Do 2 to 4 sets.

2. Explosive Medicine Ball Russian Twist and Throw—Oblique Toss

  • Partner 1 and 2: Stand side to side a few feet from each other.
  • Partner 1: Hold the ball with both hands, extend your arms out in front of you, twist to the opposite side of your partner, and then throw the ball to your partner.
  • Partner 2: Catch the ball, extend arms in front of you, twist to the opposite side, and then throw the ball to your partner.
  • Remember to keep the core tight.
  • Repeat 15 to 20 reps.
  • Do 2 to 4 sets.

3. Medicine Ball Tricep Overhead Throw

  • Partner 1 and 2: Facing each other, stand a few feet apart.
  • Partner 1: Hold the medicine ball with both hands behind your head and bend your elbows.
  • Partner 1: Throw the ball.
  • Partner 2: Catch the ball, bring the ball overhead, bend the elbows, and throw back.
  • Repeat 15 to 20 times.
  • Do 2 to 4 sets.

4. Squat and Medicine Ball Chest Toss

  • Partner 1 and 2: Facing each other, stand a few feet from each other.
  • Partner 1: Place the medicine ball between your feet.
  • Partner 1: Squat, pick up the medicine ball, stand tall, and throw the ball to your partner from the chest.
  • Partner 2: Catch the ball, drop it in front of you, squat, pick up the ball, stand tall, and throw it back to your partner.  
  • Repeat 15 to 20 times.
  • Do 2 to 4 sets.
