In Modern Dance, students learn to move according to principles of well-known Modern Dance techniques such as Dunham Technique (Katherine Dunham), Limón Technique (José Limón), Graham Technique (Martha Graham), combined with the analyses and contemporary approaches of Black choreographers such as Ron K. Brown, Camille Brown, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Kevin Iega Jeff, & Abdel Salaam. Students exhibit an understanding of the style's cultural relevancy through movement combinations and choreography as they learn positions and placement at the barre, center floor, and traveling across the floor. Students also learn musicality, improvisation, and theatrical dramatization as they undergo the very significant stages of composition and choreography. Please note all Saturday Academy classes will participate in our 35th Annual Performing Arts Presentation in June 2024. Required: Leotard Tights
