About This Activity
Learn the fundamentals of Modern Standard Chinese (Mandarin)! In Mandarin Chinese, pronunciation and writing follow different principles from the English Language. The Romanized transcription (Pinyin) is used as the phonetic system in pronouncing or reading a word while the characters are the foundation of the Chinese writing system. In this course, you will learn pinyin which will enable you to speak Mandarin Chinese without knowing the more complicated writing script based on Chinese characters. You will learn basic Chinese pronunciation and grammar, as well as Chinese cultural tips. By the end of the course you should be able to: Speak Mandarin at a basic conversational level, including offering situational greetings, self-introduce and ask for people’s names Highlight major differences between English and Chinese sentence structure Count to large numbers Identify and talk about family members.
