About This Activity
This class will take a sculptural approach to weaving, and encourage students to think outside the box to give new form to an ancient craft by designing looms in non-traditional shapes and weavings with non-traditional materials. This is a mixed media class that will begin with students working in the woodshop to create their own looms. Students will then learn to warp and weave on their loom, experimenting with wire, yarn and found objects to create their weavings. Throughout the week, ideas will be introduced on how to give weavings new dimension with material and technique. By the end of this course, students will not only have proficiency with the wood shop tools but also a loom to continue creating unique textiles with. Teaching Artist: Gabriel Fradkin
