Step 1: Choose Your Olympian
1 of 5First, choose your athlete. Who really caught your eye during Rio 2016? Was it Simone Biles or Aly Raisman flipping across the floor in the gymnastics all-around competition? Did you find yourself glued to the screen every time Michael Phelps or Katie Ledecky raced in the pool? Or are you more of a fan of the US soccer or basketball teams?
Decide which sport and which athlete you want to become.
Step 2: Find Your Attire
2 of 5More likely than not, you already have Olympic athlete attire around the house. For a swimmer, diver or water polo player, chose a swimsuit with flip flops or a swim cap. If you live in a cold area, be sure to wear an athletic top or a zip-up hoodie (recall Phelps waiting for the race in his track suit).
For a gymnast, you'll need a leotard (bonus points if you add glitter or sparkles like the Final Five). If you've chosen an athlete in a sport where a prop may come in handy, such as archery or tennis, bring along a bow (sans arrow) or a tennis racket. If you have the option of a red, white or blue (or all three) article of clothing, be sure to use that.
Step 3: Make Your Gold Medal
3 of 5What's an Olympic costume without a gold medal? You may not have brought one home from Rio personally, but don't fret; gold medals are easy to make! Cut out a circle from yellow or gold construction paper. Then, measure a ribbon around your neck and down your front to see how far you want the medal to hang, making sure it's long enough to slip on and off your head.
Attach the gold circle using hot glue or double stick tape. If your athlete won a silver or bronze, create the same ribbon with a different color circle. If your athlete won multiple medals, you may need to cut more circles.
Step 4: Get That Olympic Confidence
4 of 5You wouldn't see Simone sulking in a corner before attempting the vault, would you? Can you imagine Michael shyly walking up to the pool? Of course not!
Olympians radiate confidence, and their ability to believe in themselves helped them make it to the top in their sports. Channel your inner Olympian and put on a big smile before you walk up to each door. Knock and, in your most confident Olympian voice, say "trick or treat!"
