6 Campfire Recipes Kids Love to Make

Campfire Desserts

S'mores are always a hit with kids, but try one of these fun desserts for a tasty alternative to the traditional campfire dessert fare.

Pie Iron Desserts

Pie iron turnovers are a popular alternative to s'mores. Follow the instructions for pie iron sandwiches but fill the bread with canned fruit pie filling instead; add in fresh fruit, as well. Let your kids top it off with a spread of frosting for a decadent camping dessert. Consider using cinnamon swirl bread for added sweetness.

Banana Boats

Gently slice an unpeeled banana from the stem to the bottom by cutting through the top layer of peel and whole banana. Be careful not to slice the bottom peel. Gently open the banana and have the kids fill it with mini marshmallows and chocolate chips.

Loosely wrap the banana boat in heavy-duty aluminum foil and place in hot coals for 5 to 7 minutes; don't wrap the foil too tightly or the marshmallows will stick. Once finished, eat the banana boat right out of the peel with a spoon.
