KIDS in the GAME is a nonprofit organization "focused on inspiring kids to thrive in life through sports." KIDS in the GAME, an Active Network charitable partner, accomplishes this goal by providing financial assistance to help children from low-income families get access to after-school sports programs and physical education programs in schools.
We'll be checking in with the KIDS In The GAME blog to see what the nonprofit is up to and what's new in the world of kids being active for a good cause.
The YMCA Meets the NBA
Active and KIDS in the GAME recently paid a visit to an NBAFit instructional event at the Jackie Robinson YMCA in San Diego. Kids got to participate in activities that taught key fitness skills, while parents took part in a Q&A with a certified health and fitness professional to learn more about healthy lifestyle choices.
Active and KitG provided each participant with a $25 KIDS in the GAME Pass the kids can use to try out various physical activities and find their own ACTIVE.
#ActiveGirls: A Social Media Trend We Can All Get Behind
According to recent studies, sports participation rates of boys and girls are nearly identical in early childhood, but by age 14 girls participation in sports drops two times the rate of boys. The #ActiveGirls hashtag is aimed at promoting healthy physical activity for girls and debunking the idea the sports are "unfeminine."
The campaign creates a community of girls and women that can inspire and motivate each other to stay active.
To help make a difference in keeping kids active, you can get involved with KIDS in the GAME or make a donation.
