About This Activity
In this hands-on, project-based class, students will design, craft and modify their own personal selection of hidden weapons and gadgets. From wrist mounted launchers to secret coded messages, they will discover the tools used by the masters of disguise and and then make them. Students will learn how spy technology has changed over the years and will create an interactive kit of their own. Students in this class will use a variety of hand and power tools to make their weapons and gadgets and will take home what they make. Students will also learn about Morse Code, code breaking, and will make their own code wheels. Coded message incoming: /pɹɐʍǝɹ lɐᴉɔǝds ɐ ɹoɟ suƃᴉsǝp ʇǝɹɔǝs ǝɥʇ lɐǝʇs oʇ ǝʇǝdɯoƆ/ Please note that Spy Gear is offered to both our 3rd - 5th and 5th - 8th grade categories. These two offerings will have substantial overlap and include mostly the same projects. In our experience, the older students can typically work more quickly and precisely than the younger students and also prefer to be with kids closer to their age. The separate grade-level offerings allows for a wider variety of ages to enjoy what we anticipate will be a very popular class. Students in this class should wear closed-toe shoes and avoid wearing loose clothing. Newton’s Attic will provide eye and ear protection.
