Registration Opens December 15 for 2011 Historic Half
Be there when the town crier calls for the starting musket to fire and run the streets where the nation's first president lived as a boy and the North and South came face to face in battle. On May 15, 2011, run or relay 13.1 in timeless Fredericksburg, perfectly situated between the nation's capital and the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Online registration opens on the MCM website beginning December 15. Save $10 on registration for the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon by signing up before March 25 when the fee increases to $75. Historic Half Adds Relay
Pairs 300 pairs of runners may register to run a quarter marathon as a Historic Half relay team. Runners will log miles one to six before tagging in a relay partner in the relay zone near the residential area of Fall Hill Avenue. Relay runners will receive a distinctive ribbon on their medal for the collaborative effort in navigating the 13.1 mile course. Also, in 2011, the Historic Half has been awarded the RRCA Half Marathon National Championship designation. The goal of RRCA championship events is to shine a spotlight on well-run events and to award top performing runners in the open, masters and grand masters categories for both men and women. Relay
Mud and Music Highlight 2011 MCM Event Series
The 2011 MCM Event Series held aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico will include challenging courses, wild themes and exciting running experiences. Registration for all MCM Event Series races opens on December 15. The event calendar includes the return of the beloved late summer music extravaganza known as RunStock on August 20. Featuring just over three miles of peace and music, RunStock hosts multiple on course bands and a headline concert with picnic area at the finish. Crossroads 17.75K Moves to September 2011
The most in your face race, Crossroads 17.75K will be held on September 17 when runners navigate the challenging hills and trails of Prince William Forest on the way to the National Museum of the Marine Corps. The distance commemorates the year the Marine Corps was founded and equates to 11.03 miles. All finishers get early access to the Museum. Crossroads
MCM Registration Opens on Anniversary of Iwo Jima Flag Raising
There are two types of runners. Those who ran Marine Corps and those who plan to. If it was your first, reenlist in 2011. If it's on your list, commit. The time has come to run your favorite marathon. Registration for the 36th MCM opens on February 23, the anniversary of the 1945 flag raising atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. Pot o' Gold at the Finish of New Irish Sprint 10K
A 6.2-mile run through the Marine Corps Base with a pot o'gold at the end of the rainbow, errr course. Cross the finish and grab a special edition gold finisher coin. Special lucky coins will earn runners prizes including guaranteed registration to the MCM (certain to be sold out prior to the Irish Sprint) and other races, plus clothing, MCM souvenirs and more!
