SKILL LEVELS: Adult Beginner Prerequisites: ideal for anyone 15 or older, and if one or more of the following describes your current ability: ● little or no swimming experience ● little ability to float and/or tread water ● little ability to move forward without touching the bottom ● uncomfortable or fearful in the water Objectives: instructors are prepared to modify instruction and stroke utilization based on your current ability ● increasing comfort level in the water ● efficient breathing techniques ● appropriate floating, streamlining, breathing, and general body postures for full-stroke swimming ● treading water Goals: ● demonstrate comfort in water ● maintain appropriate body position ● travel a minimum of 15 yards (width of the pool) unassisted without touching the bottom ● jump in deep water and return to the wall Adult Advanced Beginner Prerequisites: ideal for anyone 15 or older, and if one or more of the following describes your current ability: ● some swimming ability and some experience (any stroke), but lacking consistency ● struggles with breathing techniques ● somewhat comfortable swimming in shallow water, but not comfortable swimming in deep water ● can swim on back but cannot swim freestyle ● can comfortably travel a minimum of 15 yards (one width of pool), using any strokes ● competent swimmer looking for stroke refinement Objectives: instructors are prepared to modify instruction and stroke utilization based on your current ability ● the increasing comfort level in the water ● efficient breathing techniques ● appropriate floating, streamlining, breathing, and general body postures for full-stroke swimming ● treading water ● swimming in deep water ● ability to jump in deep water and swim 15 yards (cross the pool) Goals: ● comfortable travel a minimum of 25 yards (one length of pool) in freestyle and backstroke ● demonstrate freestyle and backstroke, or breaststroke fundamentals ● tread in deep water for one minute
