Description

This class is closed to further registration.

Let's Run a Live365 Internet Music Radio Station in Class. You can take this class just for the fun of collaborating on the 8 week long working radio station project; or to learn how to start and run your own Live365 Radio Station; or for both reasons. Live365, a network of legal music Internet radio stations, has provided the instructor with a working station to program and play during the course. And all aspects of running an Internet Radio Station will be covered in the course. So you will learn how to use Live365's service (which includes live, pre-programmed, and multiple random song play options) as well as a wide range of tools to help with the entire Internet radio station process (detailed below), including how to get and format music for airplay. Please note that if you decide to start your own station after taking the course, the monthly fee for a tier one station (which should be all that you need, it's what I have) is $59 a month. If you decide to do this (optional) you sign up at home directly with Live365, the fee goes to Live365, not the instructor (who does not work for Live365). The fee includes Live365 paying all the royalties that are required of your station for playing music. These royalties go to songwriter (e.g. ASCAP, BMI) and performer (e.g. SoundExchange) organizations in the United States, Canada and the U.K. The topics covered in the course include: the radio industry, how to find music, how to develop relationships with indie artists, how to format and get your music ready for airplay, how to create station IDs/promos and talk files (including intros to shows), radio programming strategies, how to create and manage your station's schedule, how to do live broadcasts, how to stay compliant with U.S. copyright laws (DMCA rules) when playing music on the Internet, how to use Live365's dashboard which has a treasure chest of excellent features for radio broadcasters, and more. This course is mainly for people who want a hobby station. It's difficult to make Internet radio a profitable business using Live365. However, if you want to do this as a business, this is perfect for a startup station for market research purposes and to garner a following before you start paying big bucks for a stand alone station. The course will cover how to promote your station, and look at potential ways to generate revenue using your Live365 station.

Students - a flash drive for music that you will use for for the station and for programs needed for the course.
