Description
This class has been cancelled.
A Rudimental Guide is an 8-week course focusing on the performance, practice, and application of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) 40 Drum Rudiments. This class is designed for students with a background in basic snare drum technique who are looking to expand their knowledge of these rudiments and gain further insight into how to approach them from a technical and musical standpoint. Students devote 2 weeks to each rudimental subgroup (Roll Rudiments, Diddle Rudiments, Drag Rudiments, and Flam Rudiments). Demonstrations of each rudiment are played by Levine faculty; exercises and technical guidance on how to improve the playing of each rudiment are offered; and online resources to continue exploration and development away from class are shared. As the weeks progress, so will the students' understanding of the connections between the various rudimental subgroups and the similarities in technical approach. Please note: Students are required to have a drum practice pad and a matching pair of drum sticks, as well as a basic understanding of reading snare drum music.
