What's Included

Introduction to Rock Climbing is an entry level introductory course designed for the novice. No prior experience is necessary. If you've never rock climbed or rappelled, or have been climbing indoors at a rock gym, this program is for you. We'll go over the fundamentals of climbing and focus on giving you the knowledge to become a skilled and confident rock climber.

You'll learn about the relevant equipment, knots and terminology, and then we'll move right into belaying, body position, footwork and working around the climbing site. Then you will practice those skills in the outdoors with hands on climbing and rappelling.

Each climber will be able to get in several climbs and descents. You will come away with a good measure of actual climbing time on the rock. This course is 100% Top Roping on constant belay.

Here’s how it works:

• Tuesday or Thursday evening 7pm-8:30pm Skills Instruction Webinar (dates will be emailed)
• Saturday morning 7am meet in Cookeville TN (if you’re not near Cookeville We will email you directions to the crag)
• Climbing/Rappelling Saturday 9am-4pm several climbs/descents
• All necessary climbing gear will be provided
• Lunch and snacks will be provided
• Leave No Trace-Return Home
• Bring Water, Lunch, Snacks and be ready to have FUN

You will come away knowing what it is like to be a fully engaged and responsible member of a climbing party, and with a good measure of actual climbing time on the rock. Students will be outfitted with all technical equipment for this course.

At the conclusion of Introduction to Rock Climbing we encourage you to enroll in Climbing-101. This is a 2-day overnight course that continues to build upon the skills you’ve learned. We’ll cover climbing gear-outfitting for the climb, knots-bringing the rope to life, belay positioning and anchor systems, and improving your mental and physical fitness for rock climbing.
