What's Included

Children bring their creativity and motor skills to bear on the Construction Zone theme that unleashes the engineer in them. From exploring various engineering models and designs to building houses, bridges, earthmovers and more, campers will have a variety of opportunities to put what they learn to use. Note that the projects in this theme are designed to pique the interests of both boys and girls! The intersection of art and engineering, as well as complementary games and other hands-on activities will be incorporated. Rube Goldberg was both an accomplished artist (sculptor, illustrator) and an engineer. Campers will have an opportunity to design their own Rube Goldberg machine using materials provided. Physical science principles around height, weight, breadth, balance, hydraulics, motion, velocity, acceleration, speed, etc. will be touched upon in many age-appropriate, hands-on projects. While we will experience more hands-on activities on our Liberty Science Center trip, we learn the history of the engineering genius of John A. Roebling, the wire rope industry he founded, and the company town of Roebling at the Roebling Museum. *Although we plan to complete as much of our weekly schedule as possible on the last week, we host a graduation ceremony on the last day of camp. Parents, teachers and other community members are invited to this ceremony. While campers are welcome to stay through the end of our regular camp day, we do not run our typical learning schedule on the last day. This is why we offer the discount above.*
