Take your art to the next level this summer! This camp is tailored to intermediate and experienced artists, strengthening their foundation in drawing and painting by delving into the work of the great masters and some of their advanced techniques. By the end of the week, campers will have learned about five master artists and five challenging techniques to employ in his or her own artistic career! Learn about the following artists: Fra Angelico, Peter Paul Rubens, Edgar Degas, Winslow Homer, Vincent Van Gogh Learn about the following techniques: gilding/silver leaf, pastel portrait, chalk on cloth, watercolor landscape, impasto painting Each day will include 4 15-minute videos featuring: -Introduction to the artist of the day -Technique of the Day -Getting Started (a review of supplies and sample of a finished product) -Wrap It Up (a review of the process, helpful tips for improving or fixing mistakes, and final thoughts) Teacher: Mr. Peter Vitz has taught art and natural history at The Heights for 14 years. Full supply list: Drawing & painting: paint brushes; pencil & eraser; black felt pen; tempera paint (various colors); watercolor paint set; pastel chalks (black, red-brown, white, and various colors); Utensils/crafts: spoons for stirring paint; popsicle sticks, tape; scissors; white glue Paper & surfaces: large, white, heavy paper; watercolor paper (9x12 or larger) or more of paper above; 12" square of rough, white cotton cloth (like canvas or muslin); scrap paper; brown and/or tan drawing paper (construction, paper bag, butcher's, etc.); dark construction paper (such as black, red, deep blue, deep purple) Other: flour, corn starch, or dry detergent (as thickener); jars or cups for paint mixing; white (or gray) plastic plate or tray as a palette; milk; aluminum foil; clothing iron
