M-U-N is F-U-N introduces students to the exciting world of Model United Nations, a program that hosts competitive debates between middle and high school students acting as global representatives to the United Nations. Learn about current global issues and help create innovative solutions through debate, simulation, and negotiation. Participants will engage in speaking and debate games, interactive problem solving, and short simulations. No experience in Model United Nations is required to participate; both new and experienced students are welcome! This class, during Module 1, will teach students about human rights and issues surrounding refugees.. The next two weeks, in Module 2, will focus on global health and include discussion and debate on the current global pandemic. Both modules will introduce the basic skills of Model United Nations and teach the purpose and history of the United Nations. A materials list and login info will be provided before the start of class. Classes will be conducted via Google Meet. A computer such as a Chromebook, Mac, or Windows PC is required. Tablets such as iPads can also be used. To make the most of this class, a keyboard and mouse (laptops can be used), webcam, headset with microphone (optional), and printer should be available. High-speed internet (DSL or Cable internet service) of at least 1.5Mbps download/upload speed (per user) is recommended.
