What's Included

Understanding the human brain’s prominent ability for object recognition and movement control is one of the greatest challenges of brain research. Knowledge of how the human brain works in health has significant implications for exploring the neural mechanisms underlying brain disorders. This course covers an overview of neural function and synaptic neurotransmission, advanced neuroimaging techniques for studying the visual system, and the use of brain damaged patients for inferring neural function in the visual control of action and perception. Beyond lectures and activities in classes, this course includes lab sessions at the neuroimaging centre of York University where students will gain hands-on experience in participating in an actual experiment using Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) technique to investigate brain activation displayed on brain images.

About This Organizer

Science Explorations offers fun, innovative and engaging camp programs designed to inspire youth and discover science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).  Based out of the Faculty of Science at York University, our camp programs use an discovery and inquiry-based learning approach that is focused on ‘learning by doing’. Our outreach model provides campers also get a chance to work in small groups on a variety of projects that will help foster problem solving, critical thinking, and an overall passion for STEM.

Our camp takes place within the Faculty of Science at the Keele Campus of York University. Within the university environment, this gives campers the unique opportunity to learn and discover the amazing world of science and engineering . In each of our programs, whether in day-long workshops or  week-long camps, we enrich the learning experience with laboratory visits, faculty presentations, workshops and demonstrations from student groups, and much, much more!
