What's Included

Cycles of Life: Grades K-1 By exploring the patterns of change and growth, students will better understand the many natural process that sustain the world around them. Wildlife Watchers: Grades 2-3 There is a lot to learn about animal behavior without actually seeing a live animal. Students will learn to see the natural world in a new way as they build skills to extend their senses and make exciting observations. Water World: Grades 4-5 Everything needs water to survive, and everyone lives in a watershed. Students will gain an understanding of their influence over local and global water issues, while developing skills for monitoring and protecting water quality. Restoration: Grades 5-6 Students will learn about the positive and negative impacts humans have on our ecosystems, and explore strategies to repair and restore relationships to land. The foundation of the Tualatin Riverkeepers education program is a belief that awareness of space, place, and the intrinsic value of land and water is essential to our collective survival. Our goal is to promote Watershed Thinking: an understanding that wherever we are, we make choices that impact our ecosystem, the people, plants, and other animals we share this world with. We believe that a personal bond with the natural world needs to exist in order for scientific names and concepts to be meaningful. Therefore, we create opportunities for people and place to connect so students are open to the scientific vocabulary crucial to communicating ecological awareness and taking appropriate action in the modern context.
