Race Day Transportation
This is an event that spans the entire state of Rhode Island and as you will not be returning to the various leg start or finish lines throughout the race. We STRONGLY recommend you have a support team in place to assist with collecting equipment after each leg.

It is extremely important you read and understand the transportation plan for each leg of the race.
On race day there will be two main parking areas one in Middletown and one in Narragansett. The addresses are below.

Narragansett Parking Area

If you are in a relay, one member of your team may pick up the packet and bib numbers for your team and drop off equipment.

You will receive a claim ticket for your paddle board. Make sure whoever is picking up your paddle board following Leg 2 has that claim ticket. No ticket, no paddle board.

Relay Team Information
Please note that only one member of your relay team can race Leg 1 & Leg 2. Leg 3, 4 and 5 can each be raced by a different member of your team.

If you are in a Relay you will be responsible for collection of equipment at the conclusion of the kayak and bike portions of the race.
All paddle boards will be transported to the start line in Little Compton. At the conclusion of Leg 2 paddle boards will be transported from the finish to:

Racing as an Individual?
That's great! We're stoked to have individuals taking on the entire state. However, given that this is as much a logistical race as it is an endurance event, we want to remind you that you will need a support crew to drop off and collect your equipment along the way. Be sure to read through each leg detail breakdown and make sure your support crew is familiar with where to go and when to be there.

SUP Paddle Board Information
All SUP paddle boards will be transported from the equipment drop off location to the start line in Little Compton. You MUST drop off your paddle board, paddle and USCG approved flotation device on Saturday during the race packet pick up.

You CAN NOT bring your paddle board to the leg 2 start in Little Compton.

If you are in a relay:
At the conclusion of Leg 2, you and your paddle board will be transported to
Bank Newport
184 John Clarke Road
Middletown

If you are racing as an individual:
At the conclusion of Leg 2, your paddle board will be transported to:
Bank Newport
184 John Clarke Road

You may send someone other than yourself to pick up your paddle board, however they will need the claim ticket issued to you when you picked up your packet. No ticket, no board.

Leg 3 Runner Staging Area Address:
Bank Newport

Leg 4 - Kayak
You, a team member or support crew member will need to drop your kayak off on race day morning. The transition area opens at 6:00am. Volunteer staff will be available to guide you to the transition zone, however we recommend you do not leave your kayak unattended once in the transition zone. Your kayak must be ocean certified and you must have a USCG approved life vest. Race officials will scrutineer your kayak when it is dropped off. The kayak transition area is located at:

Fort Adams State Park
Fort Adams Drive
Newport, RI
The kayak transition area will be on the beach adjacent to Sail Newport.

Kayakers please pay close attention to the course. You will paddle around Fort Adams and into Mackeral Cove. Once in Mackeral Cove you will carry your kayak across the beach and put your kayak back in the water in Sheffield Cove. From there you will paddle to to Narragansett.

At the conclusion of Leg 4
If you are in a relay:
Hand off your timing chip to your teammate, collect your kayak and clear out of the transition zone.

If you are racing as an individual:
Before you can start the bike portion of the leg, you need to ensure your kayak is cleared out of the transition zone and beach area.

You may send someone other than yourself to pick up your kayak, however it is your responsibility to make sure you get your kayak to the person picking it up. Race management will not be responsible for any kayaks unaccounted for.

Leg 5 - Bike

Cyclists may drop off their bikes on Sunday, August 9th starting at 4am. All bikes must be in the transition zone no later than 8:30am.
Race Management will provide security in the transition zone until all cyclists are on the bike portion of the race.

The bike portion of the race is a 29.5-mile route that is all on shared roads. Police officers will be at intersections throughout the course to allow bikes to pass through the course without having to stop. However, it is still the responsibility of the cyclist to ride in a safe manner. As the course requires competitors to cross over both 1A and Route 1, the first 4.2 miles will be untimed. This is to ensure the safety of all riders.

To be clear, timing will stop when you cross the mat at the conclusion of the kayak and not resume until you cross the timing mat on Saugatucket Road.

The bike portion of the race will follow USA Triathlon Cycling Conduct Standards, this includes NO drafting for the entire course. Any competitor observed violating those rules will be automatically disqualified. Rules violations are at the sole judgement of Race Management.

Waste & Trash

Race the State seeks to keep each city and town it visits as clean as it was before we arrived. To that end, this will be a zero tolerance event with regard to trash and waste. Any gel packs, goo, water bottles or other waste is the sole responsibility of the competitor. NO Exceptions. Race Management reserves the right to disqualify any competitor or team violating this rule.
